'What do you want?' asked the dishevelled little owl.
'I don't want anything...' said the moon.
'What makes you think I want something?'
'Ah!' said the dishevelled little owl.
'I don't mean, “What do YOU want from ME?
'I mean, “What do YOU want for YOU?"
(Pause.)
'Oh,' said the moon.
(Pause.)
'I want to be seen,' said the moon.
'Do you?' asked the dishevelled little owl.
'I do, yes,' said the moon.
'Why do you want to be seen?' asked the dishevelled little owl.
(Silence.)
‘So I know I exist,' said the moon.
(Pause.)
'But what do you want, really?' asked the dishevelled little owl.
'It depends where I am,' said the moon,
'where I've been,
‘where I’m going,
'who I'm with,
'how I'm feeling...'
(Longer pause.)
'But if you could have ONE thing,' said the dishevelled little owl,
'ONE special thing all the time, every day.
'What would it be?'
The moon looked into the dishevelled little owl's eyes.
And then, he said, 'You.
'I'd have you.'
